Welcome to the Study of Chinese Traditional Festival

Introduction of Our Project

Festivals have always been an essential part of human history. Every culture has its unique festival, but most of them are about bringing everyone together to share their good hopes, happiness, joy or even grief. Since every culture has its uniqueness, the best way to know a culture is to understand its festivals. China has a variety of traditional festivals, each with its own unique background culture. Today, celebrating festivals has become a habit for Chinese people, but the culture behind these festivals has always been ignored. Thus, we would like to create the topic to help people better understand how the Chinese festivals have formed and influenced Chinese culture.

The topic of this project is “Chinese Culture: Chinese Traditional Festivals”. Throughout the course, learners will be able to learn a couple of different Chinese festivals, including the history of Chinese festivals, the tradition of the Chinese festivals (e.g. activities and traditional foods), and impact of Chinese culture on Chinese festivals.

There are five blog posts (i.e. lessons) in this project. Each blog post contains a brief introduction of the sub-topic, a clear learning outcome, relevant learning content and materials, useful learning activities, and effective learning assessment. The design of this project is well-structured and inclusive.

Our Target Learners

Our project is intended for high-school students (Grade 10 to Grade 12) who are interested in traditional Chinese festivals or Chinese culture. No prior knowledge of Chinese festivals or culture is required. This is a fully asynchronous online project, so learners have to participate in the project and learn from it actively by themselves. Also, this project is inclusive; therefore, it focus primarily on two main groups of people as well: English Language Learners (ELL) and people who do not have access to a computer at home, but has a mobile phone with a data plan. The main purpose of this project will be designed to help learners not only expand their knowledge on Chinese culture, traditions, and festivals, but also understand part of the Chinese culture behind the scenes.

Learning Outcomes For the Project
